Spring is a good time for county residents with private wells to have their water system sampled and tested, according to county environmental health and zoning administrator Chuck Wenthold.
The county can provide free testing of well water through a private well testing program managed by the Iowa Department of Public Health. The program provides free water testing for private well owners and use.
The test can answer any questions about the safety of the water, including whether the water has potential to call illness in the short-term or by long-term exposure to contaminants. Health organizations recommend that private water supplies be tested at least once each year.
Residents can contact Greene county environmental health at 515-386-5669 to arrange for a free water test.
